Having been diagnosed with osteopenia and having lost a lot of strength due to a mostly sedentary lifestyle for 20 years, I decided to enroll in Wendy’s bone building class. I was impressed with the extensive onboarding testing — beyond just strength, it assessed my balance, mobility, and grip strength, which are strong predictors of how well a person is aging.
Because I was new to weight training, I was nervous about performing lifts incorrectly. That fear quickly proved unwarranted: Wendy patiently works with all new participants to ensure correct form and closely watches everyone during class to catch and correct any issues.
Before starting, I wasn’t able to step up into an airport shuttle without gripping the handrail. Today, I’m amazed at how much I’ve been able to lift — reaching a personal best of 76 lb on deadlifts and squats. I’ve never felt stronger! Going to the gym can feel like a chore, but I genuinely look forward to every class because of the supportive environment Wendy creates and the wonderful women I’ve befriended.
