A radiation-free REMS ultrasound scan of your hip and spine, with body composition included. No physician referral needed. Book online in a couple of minutes.
REMS (Radiofrequency Echographic Multi Spectrometry) is FDA-cleared ultrasound technology that reads how sound waves travel through bone. You leave with numbers you understand and a baseline you can track.
Lumbar spine and hip, the two sites that matter most for fracture risk.
Included in the same appointment, at no extra cost.
We walk you through your report the same visit, with time for your questions.
You don't need a diagnosis or a referral. These are the people we see most often.
Get a baseline after menopause, or check in between DEXA scans, without another round of X-ray exposure.
Strength training, nutrition, or a plan with your doctor? Repeat scans show whether it's working.
Endurance athletes and lifters use bone density and body composition to train smarter and protect against stress fractures.
No needles, no tunnel, no undressing beyond loosening your waistband.
Pick a time that works for you. No referral or prior paperwork from your doctor needed.
Lie comfortably on a table, fully clothed. A small ultrasound probe scans your spine and hip. It's quick and painless.
We go over your report with you before you leave, so you know what the numbers mean.
DEXA is still the standard your doctor uses to diagnose osteoporosis and guide treatment. REMS adds a radiation-free way to screen and to track change over time.
REMS is a screening and monitoring tool, not a diagnosis. Please share your results with your physician, who makes diagnosis and treatment decisions with you.

No. You can book a REMS scan yourself, online. You're welcome to bring your results to your physician afterward.
Yes. REMS uses ultrasound, the same kind of technology used in many routine imaging exams, so there's no ionizing radiation. That's what makes it practical to repeat over time.
REMS scans are cash-pay. We can give you a superbill to submit to your insurance yourself, though reimbursement isn't guaranteed. We aren't a Medicare provider.
No. REMS is a screening and monitoring tool. Diagnosis and treatment decisions belong with your physician, who typically uses DEXA. Many people use REMS to get a baseline and to track how their bones respond over time.
REMS gives you a radiation-free way to check in between DEXA scans, adds body composition, and lets you track change on the same device every time. The two use different methods, so the numbers aren't directly interchangeable; it's best to compare REMS to REMS over time.
Because there's no radiation, you can repeat REMS as often as is useful. Many patients come back every 6 to 12 months to see how their bones are responding.
Loose, two-piece clothing is easiest, so we can reach your lower abdomen and hip without you changing. Avoid gassy foods and fizzy drinks beforehand. Fasting helps but isn't required.
No. Anyone can book. Our clinic is simply located inside the Ecke Family YMCA.
